Teachers are expected to produce achievement for all students. I think achievement is different for all students. Are all students expected to be on the same level?
Why don't textbooks align with the National standards for a subject?
Teachers must consider what kinds of thinking students will be required to do.
One important reason for assessment is to build on what students know.
"The more students know about the goals for learning, the better the students will be in achieving them."

I agree that each student attains their own personal level of achievement. As teachers, I believe it is not our job to set one standard level of achievement for our students but instead we should encourage and motivate our students to reach their individual potential for learning and achieve their own personal goals. It would be great to have each student set a personal goal that they can work to achieve throughout the school year. I believe that it makes a vast difference in student learning when a teacher gets to know his or her students and understands their needs and interests. Lessons become more personal for the learner and they are able to relate the content to their own personal experiences. In order for student to grow cognitively they must build on prior knowledge and experiences. When learning something new students can break down the information and relate it to something they have already learned. In turn, when assessing students they should be assessed on knowledge gained.
